Civil Engineering Design for Single-Family Residence – Newport Beach

Moment Engineering provided full civil engineering services for a new single-family residence located in a coastal hillside neighborhood of Newport Beach, CA. The scope of design included a precise grading plan, drainage layout, utility coordination, and erosion control measures in compliance with the City of Newport Beach Municipal Code.

GRADING & DRAINAGE PLAN

Grading Plan:

A detailed grading plan was prepared to accommodate the sloped site, ensuring positive drainage away from structures and toward designated stormwater outlets. Earthwork was balanced with an estimated 119 CY of fill and 61.9 CY of cut, and pad elevations were carefully set to match the finished floor of the proposed residence.

Onsite Drainage System:
A comprehensive stormwater management system was designed, including yard drains, storm sewer piping (PVC Schedule 40), and biofiltration planters to manage surface runoff and comply with Low Impact Development (LID) requirements.

SUMP PUMP DESIGN

Two Zoeller Model 292 sump pumps were specified to ensure reliable drainage from low-lying areas to daylight through the curb per city standards.

EROSION CONTROL

Construction Best Management Practices (BMPs) were designed per CASQA and City standards, including fiber rolls, construction fencing, concrete waste management, and stabilized construction entrances to minimize runoff and sediment transport during grading and construction.
